It is correct usage, but in AmE the answer will vary, depending upon who is asking: a customs official or an acquaintance/friend/co-worker. The customs official wants to know your country of birth. A co-worker that asks me "What's your nationality?" wants to know my ethnic background (in my case, my mother is of Irish/German heritage, and my father is Czechoslovakian).![]()
