    considering

considering his look when you mentioned her name, I don't think he's going to support her candidacy.

    hi there,
which expression/word could I use instead of the underlined one so that the sentence would sound less formal and, at the same time, its meaning would remain preserved, please?
    thanks.

    Thanks!!

I particularly like “going by” because it’s similar to an expression I have in my native tongue. Is it standard English, please? I mean, do you think people in Canada would understand me if I used it?

Still, is it possible to omit the word “going” or is it mandatory? For example, are the following sentences fine, please?

“(going) By what I saw yesterday, I don’t think we are winning this championship anymore”.

“(going) By what she told me, I think he’ll be leaving us very soon”.

    Thanks again.

    Re: considering

It's OK to use "Going by" but I'd prefer"

“From what I saw yesterday, I don’t think we are winners of this championship anymore”.

    Thanks a lot.
"From" is very nice, actually. It sums up the whole idea in a very short word. As to my question about the "going by" expression, please, do you think I could omit the "going"?
    Thanks again.

You could. But you wanted something informal. "Going by" is more informal than "By".
