    batten down the hatches

    Dear Sir,

To take precaution against an impending huricane, can I say "to batten down the hatches when a hurricane is coming"? Or can I just say "to batten down before a storm"?

    Best regards,

    Re: batten down the hatches

Probably clearer to say "batten down the hatches" if talking about being on a boat. It is a standard idiom.
