Everyone in the bank-including the manager and the tellers-ran to the door when the fire alarm rang.

Can someone tell me how come tellers-ran is the right answer??? how can you tell if - needs to be between tellers and ran and why??

    Re: tellers-ran

There ought to be a space on either side of the dashes, and they are being used instead of commas. Stylistically they are felt to make the sentence more urgent.
