    October 6th 2008 date

    Today is Monday October 6th 2008

    the whole thing is refer to as the date, isn't it?
    the day is Monday
    October is the month
    and 2008 is the year

    what about the 6th
    what is the term for th 6th? Is it day? But day is Monday?

    I think we say:
    The day is Monday the 6th. They go together. By that we mean that The day is called Monday and its number is 6, that's it!
    I'm not a teacher, anybody correct me if I'm wrong!

    Unfortunately there is no specific term in English for this.
    "Date" is as good as any.

    If you wanted to be absolutely clear you could use some (quite heavy-handed) circumlocution, like 'day of the month' (as opposed to 'day of the week').
