    subjunctive mood, tense

    Dear teachers,

I have two questions to ask:
    No.1
Please explain if the following sentences are correct:
    1. If I had to do it over again, I would have changed my major earlier.
    2. If I had had to do it over again, I would have changed my major earlier.
    3. If I had to do it over again, I would change my major earlier.

Last Sunday we_____ a barbecue party but it rained.
    a. were having b. were going to have
The key is "b". I guess "a" isn't correct because "but" instead of "when" is used. Is that right?
    Looking forward to hearing you.
    Thank you in advance.
