    Lightbulb A four letter word

LOVE is more than a four letter word
it packs more power than any we've heard.

LOVE can turn a frown into a smile
    make our day more worthwhile.

LOVE never fails, love never tires
makes more heat than many fires.
    ...
Hi! The quoted above is an excerpt of a poem by one of our forum members.

When I read the first verse as I highlighted in blue, it reminded me of the negative phrase - "four-letter word" at once.

I wonder whether it is appropriate or good in such a context.

PS: I don't intend to offend the writer -our forum member here.

It's not inappropriate, but you made the right association; saying 'love is a four-letter word' is more immediate because it invites that sort of misinterpretation. It makes the real meaning more emphatic by making the readers/listeners changed their minds; as with 'People say I'm an 'amateur', and indeed I am. I love what I do. That's what the Latin amare means.'

In the context (I don't know it, because life's too short for me to read that forum!) it may be made more appropriate still, by some unpleasant experience resulting from love or trust.

Smile Re: A four letter word

    Hi BobK,

Thank you for taking time to reply my question.

I just think that maybe the writer meant that- a pun. Love is not only the spelling of l-o-v-e and sex-the four-letter word but means more.
