questions about tense, words in this short article

The word going around in WWE is that Joey Mercury is not scheduled to return to the company. If he is, nobody knows about it right now. He is simply doing this media stuff to create buzz for himself 1.from the looks of it.
Mercury was released from his WWE contract on March 26, 2007 due to issues with drugs. Now CM Punk has gone to bat for Mercury with the WWE to make his return a reality, he had been doing a lot of Indy shows, and scheduled them all together.
He 2.took a big chunk out of his schedule from now till December for a rumored return to the WWE. Now you may be wondering where CM Punk fits in to all of this, well Mercury and Punk have been best friends for quite some time, they grew up together basically.
Now that Punk is a main event player and the WWE is looking to put him into the growing tag division, he wants to be with Mercury, Punk heard about the Joey Mercury wanting to come back and told the WWE about it, but thats as far as it went really.
Mercury did take off for a while, but it was to rest not return to the WWE. And word is that he is interested in coming back of course, just the WWE has not made a time if any to bring him back. If he does look for him to be on RAW with Punk.
But what do you think, should the WWE bring him back, or is he just another washed up superstar?

    1. Is that Joey tried to arouse the company 's awareness by making some media buzz/news? If so, I don't understand what " from the looks of it" means.

    2. If the schedule is from now till Dec, why does it use past tense here? Is it incorrect to use "has taken" here?

    3. There are a lot of meanings of "Take off" Does it mean "take a rest"? Or "leave"?

Re: questions about tense, words in this short article

I forgot to post one more question:

He took a big chunk out of his schedule from now till December for a rumored return to the WWE. Now you may be wondering where CM Punk fits in to all of this, well Mercury and Punk have been best friends for quite some time, they grew up together basically.

Can I replace "where" with "why"?
Also, Does "fits in to all of this" mean "related to his possible return"?

1.from the looks of it. (From what we know or from the information we can gather)

2.took a big chunk out of his schedule from now till December (he set aside a large amount of time. He took this time from now into the future, "from now till December" means he set this time aside in the past and is currently still on vacation)

    3. where CM Punk fits in to all of this (what this has to do with CM Punk. or what influence CM Punk has in the situation)

Mercury did take off for a while (he took time off from work, he planned time aside for something other than work)

"Take off" Does it mean "take a rest"? Yes, in this sentence.

But you must look at HOW "take" is used in each sentence. There are several meanings of "take": you can take a rest, take a vacation, take a taste of something, take note of something, take off, take a break, etc.

Re: questions about tense, words in this short article

    Redgiant,
Here is my take on it: J.M. has not been “around”, so he created some “press” (newspaper articles) about himself to keep his name “on everybody’s lips” (talked about). There is a saying that the only thing worse than bad press is NO press; he wants to stay in the fans conversations.
    (1) “FROM THE LOOKS OF IT”- means from the reporter’s point of view.
    (2) While it wouldn’t be incorrect to use “has taken”, “TOOK” refers to the decision he made at one specific time in the past. Although his schedule is on-going (continuous action), the decision was completed at some specific time in the past (simple past).
    (3) “TAKE OFF”- this may refer to the fact that he has not participated in the WWE.
    (4) “Now you may be wondering where CM Punk fits in to all of this”- This is an obscure reference to a jigsaw puzzle where all of the pieces must fit together to complete the picture. “WHERE” cites a place (rather then WHY); “fits into all of this” means what part might CM Punk play in J.M.’s return to the WWE.
