    simple past or past progressive

I saw Sue at the market yesterday, but she didn't see me. She ___ the other way.
    (A) looks (B) looked (C) is looking (D) was looking

The answer is choice D. Is choice B also acceptable?

No. The only choice is D.
She might have looked the other way if she didn't want to talk to you. But that implies that she saw you.
