    Question surrogate auntie=?

Picture the scene. I am on my sofa on Saturday night with my 18-year-old goddaughter, who has been sent from her home in Glasgow to spend the weekend with her (and I quote her father here) 'successful, hardworking, surrogate auntie'.
Hello! What does "surrogate auntie" mean? Does it mean there's no blood relationship between them? Thanks!

Exactly. The writer is standing in, acting as an aunt although she is not actually an aunt by blood or marriage.
