    Question If Only to Do

    Hi!

I added some words to the following "if only to do" sentences. Just for the sake of us, non-native speakers, understanding, could you please tell me if the paraphrases are about right? (I know there should be several other possible paraphrases as is the case with other sentences, but I'm asking this just to see if my interpretation is right. "If" --- a conjunction --- should be followed by a subject and a verb in the complete sentence, you know)

    1) It was nice to hear you apologize anyway (even) if (I heard you do so) only to know you could do it in the future.
    2) The Army set up all our computers, and that was a relief— (even) if (they set them up) only to know we could at least communicate with the civilised world.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hiro
