    Question Homer's passing away

    Episode:

Homer threw a dummy of himself into falls. And people were decieved into thinking he died. So they came Homer's and wanted to tell his wife the bad news.

His wife -Marge opened the door.

"Home's passing away," a man told Marge.

    Question:

I wonder why it is in present continue tense in this sentence I highlighted in blue. I think it should be perfect past tense, that is "Homer has passed away."

    Thanks!

Because they were not sure that Homer had passed away. Had it been definite, they would have said 'Homer has passed away'.
Since he was drowing(or his effigy), they said 'Homer is passing away'.
