    a letter

    Hi there,
I am writing a story. In the story, I will write a letter to a king telling him it is our honour to see him and I will give him a present. I am stuck there because I don't know how to use appropriate words to write it. Could you help? Thanks a lot. Italics shows the letter.

    Your Majesty,
It is our honour to have an opportunity to be allowed to see you. I would like to represent our centre to give you a Chinese calligraphy for a present. Please accept it. Below is the English translation of the calligraphy.

    TRANSLATION ....

Wish you have both wisdom and blessing.

    Thanks a lot

    Peter

    How about this:

    Your Majesty,

It will be a great honour to be able to present to you in person, on behalf of [name of centre], a Chinese poem written out by one of our great calligraphers.

This is the English translation of the poem:

We very much hope that you will accept this gift, and wish you blessings and wisdom.

    Your humble servant,

    name

    Re: a letter

    Hi there,
    thanks a lot.
I wonder if the word 'gift' could be replaced by 'present' because 'gift' sounds something free of charge and from God; for example, a gifted child. Is it appropriate to speak with a king like this?

    Thanks
    pete
