re: Do all brand names have meaning?

Many are the name of the person who founded the company.

Can you give some examples of brand names that puzzle you?

Yes, you can make up a word to be a company name. Xerox and Kodak come to mind as "made-up" words that have become famous brands. Maybe they do have a meaning to someone, but in standard English, they are associated with those companies only.

In contrast to that is "Apple" which of course is a common noun. Apple (the company) uses an apple (the fruit) as its logo.

The Ford Motor Company is named after its founder.

"Nabisco" is short for "National Biscuit Company".
