    read, get over

    Dear teachers,

I have one questions to ask:

I know I can say "to read of the accident in the newspaper". I can also say "to read a story in the newspaper". My question is: Can I say "to read the accident in the newspaper"?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang

    Re: read, get over

i think you can read only something that is a kind of language. so you can read the accident report/description/details, etc, not the accident itself.
    not a teacher

No you can't. You can read of/about the accident.
Stories can be read. Accidents can't.

Can I say "to read the accident in the newspaper"?
    Not quite. It would be:
"I read about the accident in the newspaper"
    compare
"I read your advertisement in the newspaper." ('read' is Past tense here)
"I read his article in the newspaper. It was about global warming and..."
