    Question haggle vs. bargain

Hello! Could someone please tell me what the difference between "haggle" and "bargain" is if both of the words refer to price-negotiating?

Ex 1: He prefer to be overcharged than to___.

    (1) haggle; (2) bargain

Ex 2: Tom liked the antique and decided to buy it but he wanted to __with the owner.

    (1) haggle; (2) bargain

And from Online Etymology, I learned "haggle" originally means chop. Are there any different images of which the two words would remind the readers? Many thanks!

    Re: haggle vs. bargain

They mean the same - you negotiate with the seller, starting with a low price and the seller with a high price, and adjusting your offer till you both reach the sum that you agree on.

"Haggle" is more colloquial and vivid.
