Need some advice on the following question regarding Synthesis and Transformation.
We advised him to spend more time on his studies. He refused to listen to us.
Although we advised him to spend more time on his studies, he refused to listen.
Although we advised him to spend more time on his studies, he refused to listen to us.
Of the 2 possible answers above, please advise which one is more appropriate? Is "to us" really necessary or is it superfluous/redundant? Wouldn't the first part of the sentence have implied so?
Hi yapph (Steven)
Maybe I've spent too much time trying to read between the lines, but I would say that the possible difference in nuances between the 2 are:
1. This could suggest that the person physically didn't listen to you
2. Suggests that, although they may have physically listened to you, they have not taken what you said into account.
That having been said, many people would use them interchangably.
Hope this helps
