Exuding confidence, Obama told reporters he would hold a news conference on Wednesday, and later playfully laughed at those shouting questions at him.
Does this expression mean the same as "asking questions", please? Does it mean the questions were asked in a disrespectful way?
The setting in which the questions were asked was very noisy, and there were a lot of people competing for Obama's attention. In these types of situations, each reporter is trying to get the attention of the main person. There is generally a lot of shouting, but it isn't necessarily disrespectful. It's just the only way of getting heard above the noise of the crowd of reporters.
