    Meanings

Can anyone please explain to me the meaning of the underline words & phrases in following sentences?
Time dragged so slow and comatose, fun was conspicuous by its absence.
    Cracking knuckles.
Working like moronic drones until midnight.
I beg you brothel-borns, not now: can we please study?
    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Meanings

    Hi shanz,

There are a few words concerning the matter in question:

to be conspicuous = it strikes the eye, it leaps to the eyes,

cracking knuckles = cracking joints is the practice of manipulating one's joints such that they produce a sharp sound, likened to cracking (also likened to popping, etc.).

moronic (a) = having a mental age of between eight and twelve years (stupid, foolish)

drone (n) = · A male bee, especially a honeybee, that is characteristically stingless, performs no work, and produces no honey. Its only function is to mate with the queen bee.
    · An idle person who lives off others; a loafer.
    · A person who does tedious or menial work; a drudge: “undervalued drones who labored in obscurity”

So don't be a moronic drone jumping for treats from one party or another.

Hard-working, moronic drone needed to assist genius with experiments.

brothel (n) = a brothel, also known as a bordello or whorehouse, is an establishment specifically dedicated to prostitution, providing the prostitutes a place to meet and to have sex with the clients.

    brothel-born = born into a brothel

    Regards,

    V.
