    joke ?

Could somebody explain the following quote ?
I don't get what is funny.
Grammatical jokes are similarly made through mistranslation. A very easy and common form of (intentional) mistranslation are " that's what she said" jokes : "I wanted to hang a picture on the wall over there, but I couldn't get it up

    Re: joke ?

This type of joke is an unintentional double entendre. The person speaking was making a totally innocent comment about being unable to hang a picture. Unfortunately, his choice of words "to get it up" is also a common slang phrase that refers to a man's ability (or inability) to achieve an erection.
