    Until now

It has taken until now to pin down the exact location

I found this sentence in Collins Dict, Can Until now be used in a positive sentence like that? Does it mean they have learnt its exaction location not until now?

Until Now : 1. used in negative statement to describe a situation that has existed up to this point or up to the present time

    Re: Until now

In this situation now is just a pronoun. you could also say " It has taken until this morning to pin down its exact location."
As a preposition, until can be used in positive or negative situations.
+ The water flowed until this morning.
    - The water didn't flow until this morning.
