    could you please tell me what "pledge the credit" means in the following sentence:

    The agent shall not, without the principal's prior approval, incur any liabilities, pledge the credit of the principal, make any representations or give any warranty on behalf of the principal.

    Does it mean:
    1) promise a loan
    2) make promises generally (give one's word)

    According to this text on jurisprudence, it's financial and doesn't just mean loans, but any spending of the principal's money or making financial commitments.
