    mission control at Houston

Once upon a time a child's bedroom had little more than a toy box, a book shelf and a few posters. Today it looks like mission control at Houston.

The meaning of the sentence is clear, but what exactly does the last phrase mean?

    Re: mission control at Houston

The space program in the US was run out of Houston, Texas. (There is a famous line in the movie "Apollo 13" - "Houston, we have a problem.")

It was full of computers, computer screens, keyboards, electronics of every size, type, and shape.

This sentence says that children's bedrooms these days are full of electronics.

(By the way, m children's bedrooms are NOT full of electronics, unless you count a clock.)

When I was a child I didn't even have a TV set in my room.
