Question Why Snitchy -Milhouse punished by Pastor

    Scenario:(About American cartoon- The Simpsons)

Mischievous Bart played a prank on a pastor during the congregation. His loyal sidekick Milhouse told the pastor that Bart did it. Bart was punished by the pastor. So was Milhouse.

Here's the snippet of the dialogue.

    Milhouse: Bart did it!

Pastor told Milhouse: Milhouse, you did the right thing.

Pastor said to Bart: Bart, come with me for punishment.

Pastor said to Milhouse: You too, snitchy.

    Question:

Why was Milhouse punished by the pastor? According to the dogma of the Holy Bible, are snitchies bad even they didn't commit any wrong doings?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure if it is connected with the Bible; snitches are regarded as very low forms of life, usually by those they report to as well.

Snitches - which we call "dobbers" - are generally not liked. That is why "whistle-blowers" have such a hard time. I think it's human nature for people to think that anyone who reports their entirely rationalisable bending of the rules are contemptible goody-two-shoes.

    Hi Raymott,

Thank you for your comment. If a student of yours cheated in an exam, and another fellow student-Peter told you about this privately, would you think Peter was contemptible? How should Peter do properly?

Re: Why Snitchy -Milhouse punished by Pastor

    What a great question!
A snitch (or rat, stool-pigeon, tattle-tale, tale-bearer, informer, etc.) is a person who 'tells' on someone else out of spite, in order to gain the favor of an authority, or for money or other personal gain.
People tend to despise snitches because of the reason they inform. The pastor on the Simpson's does not punish Milhouse out of any religious motive. He punishes him for being a self-serving snitch.
It is the motive of the one 'telling' that makes the difference between a laudable act of conscience and 'snitching'. If the informing is done to remedy a dangerous, harmful situation, most people would consider it justifiable.

    All best wishes,
    Petra
