    Synonyms for "skipping class"

What would be a good synonym for skipping class that would be rather universal or widely used in the US and UK ?

    Thanks.

    Thanks, Anglika.

Could someone "play hooky" on something? For instance, could a character avoiding death be "playing hooky" on Heaven?

    Not a teacher.

I think 'playing hooky' is particularly used for describing 'truant.' It means 'play truant from work or school.' You can't 'play hooky' on something.

Here is an example; The boy often plays hooky.

    Hope it is useful.

    Re: Synonyms for "skipping class"

In the schools (in California) I have attended and taught in students say 'cutting class' or 'cutting school'. Occasionally one hears 'skipping school' as well. 'Playing hooky' is a very well-understood expression, but always sounds rather 19th century to my ears.

"Cutting" was used in the east as well.

I agree that "Playing hooky" has an old-fashioned feel and you would use it jokingly.
