    He's a pistol

My 5 year old grandson was called a "pistol" by his teacher, is that good or bad?

It means he's a bit mischievous but not seriously troublesome.

    Re: He's a pistol

Pistol is a slang word suggesting a person who is exuberant, energetic and often does surprising things. I think it has both an amused and slightly naughty connotation.
