The past simple tense is used to talk about complete actions, whereas the past continuous tense focuses on actions in progress:

I read a book last night. means you read the whole book last night. (complete action)
I was reading a book last night. means you started to read a book last night, but you stopped reading it for some reason; you didn't read the whole book. (incomplete action)

    Dear Engee,

Let's say this is a simple rule of verb -ing? Sometimes I'm a little confused when I should say past simple or past continuous.
