Passive tense is wrong here ?
You don't say "He was more being impressed". You can't say that in English. If you are "more being" something, then you are "becoming" it.
It's still passive.
"He was becoming more impressed by the picture" Passive
"The picture was impressing him more" Active.
Of course, instead of "he became..." you could still write "he was becoming ..."
