    'pest control'

My house is full of roaches! I need to call the 'pest control'!

    Hi,
How do you say those companies that are called to spray poison in the house in order to kill roaches and things like that?
    Thanks!

    Re: 'pest control'

    Pest control is quite usual.

A number of our local councils call them Rodent operatives

    Re: 'pest control'

    Hi,

    I have a small doubt!

"I need to call the roden operatives/exterminator in order to -verb- my house."

What is the verb that means "to spray/apply poison", please?

    Thanks.

    Re: 'pest control'

When you say you need to call the exterminators, it is clear what they will be doing. You needn't say it.

I have to call the exterminators.
I have to call the pest control.

I know you have bugs and vermin!

    Thanks,

I was just wondering how to say differently.

For example: "The guys are coming to fumigate the house tomorrow."

If I say so, is it clear than I called the pest control?

    Thanks again.

    Re: 'pest control'

Thank God I don't have a bug problem or you'd be getting my posts from the loony bin (I really don't like bugs) but I have had problems with mice.

The first time I called the exterminator to tell them I had a mouse problem, the conversation started with "Hi, I'm having some mouse issues at my home." That was all I needed to say. They are the professionals and would handle it correctly. I didn't need to say "And I want them killed" or "I need you to spray or set traps or set out poison."

By the way, the lady asked me how I knew I had a mouse problem. I guess she expecting me to say that I'd seen sign of chewing or perhaps some droppings. When I told her one had just hauled ass down the hallway two inches from my foot and was currently hiding under the sofa to avoid my cats, she had someone there the next day.

    Re: 'pest control'

    Funny story, Barb!

We had mice at one home a few years ago. Also had a cleaner who was stereotypically afraid of them - she would hop on a chair and start screaming. We never could get rid of them, so we decided to name "him" (we only saw one at a time and certainly had no idea of its gender) - Hector. Hector became our omnipresent but bashful pet.

We kept the poison going, however, and eventually we saw Hector less and less.

Then we moved. The house was completely empty, the moving van had left, we were ready to drive away with the toolbox and the ice chest, and I made one last look in the house.

There was Hector, slowly wobbling along the hall, toward the front door. He had come to say good bye. My heart went out to him. I reached down and picked him up without any resistance or flight. I carried him outside and set him down in a shady area under a geranium.

And drove away, with a heavy heart.
