    Which sentence is actually correct?

The police had arrived and the mob had turned nasty.

    Correct sentence.
    38.94 % (88)
    The first 'had' is wrong.
    23.01 % (52)
    The second 'had' is wrong.
    38.05 % (86)

Correct sentence is 38.94% and the second "had"wrong is 38.05. Which one is actually correct?

Re: Which sentence is actually correct?

I would say it would be better written as "The mob had turned nasty and then the police arrived" OR "The police had arrived after the mob had turned nasty".

In the sentence as you give it, I would omit the first "had".
