jerk to a halt and lurch to a halt

    Hi! teachers:
Is the sentence( should I say sentence or idiom?) "The car lurched to a halt." same as the sentence(idiom?) "The car jerked to a halt."
    Thanks for your enlightenment.

Re: jerk to a halt and lurch to a halt

To jerk = to make a short sudden movement.

To lurch = to move in an irregular way, especially making sudden movements backwards or forwards or from side to side.
