    Question How's it hangin'

    Hello!

Q1: If someone said, "How's it hangin?", how shoud I respond?

Can I say, "I am good. Thanks. How's it hangin"?

Q2: Is it usually as a greeting between men but not that common between women?

    Thanks!

Hi SUD, a native speaker will know it better I reckon. It depends on a situation and on how well you know person you ask it.

Edit: my second thought is that even the sophisticated people have it.:DDD

I have never, ever heard women exchange this expression.

I find it a bit vulgar. Just a tiny bit. But still a bit.

I do not feel it being vulgar as I am not a native speaker but I definitelly prefer a simple "how are you".

The term in Australia is "How're they hangin'" The referent should be obvious.

    Re: How's it hangin'

The vulgarity comes from the reference to just what it is that is "hanging."

    Re: How's it hangin'

All hell will break lose, if the receptionist in my company finds out about 'how it's hanging'!
The wall behind her desk is decorated with a painting/artwork, which is changed every now and then. Whenever there is a change, the peon and the lady ask every passerby, 'how is it hanging' and then tilt the frame a bit.
