    Get into or down

    Hi,

When a hammer collides with a pile, the pile must [get into, get down] the ground.

Would you tell me what proposed word or other words is correct?

    Thank you in advance

If it is a pile of objects/material:

When a hammer smashes into a pile [of something], the pile collapses into the ground.

If it is a pile supporting a building:

When the pile-driver hits the pile, it is driven into the ground.
