self-depend and linked form of verbs

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me your opinion concerning the follow three pairs of sentences?

1.1. They grew lots of vegetables and fruit.

1.2. James grew more and more alarmed.

2.1. The dirtier a place is the more rent you get.

    2.2. Now, don’t get nervous.

    3.1. He turned angrily round.

3.2. He turned as pale as death.

    Thank you for your effort.

    Regards,

    V.

In the first sentences, the verb is used with its primary meaning.
In the second of each set, the verb means "become".
I assume you mean "as pale as death".
