    Smile depend of

    Dear teachers and friends,

    Is it possible to read:

    It depends of taxes!

If so, could you show us more examples?

I guess it should be ON not OF.

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: depend of

"depends on" is a term that means "relies on" or "related to"

Can you go to the party?
    It depends on my finances.

Can you afford to buy that house?
    It depends on the taxes.

OK, thanks, but, what about "depend of", is it grammatically wrong no matter what the case is?

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: depend of

I can't think of a sentence that sounds right using "depends of." I assume the original you read was just a typo.

At first sight I thought it was grammatically wrong, but there are entries of it on both American and British Corpora of English.

    Re: depend of

I honestly think all of those examples are simply typos.

I don't know, if there are records of them on the web, I guess it is not just a typo, maybe it is extremely uncommon.

I suppose the person who wrote "DEPENDS OF" was doing a word-for-word translation, and... we are finding it wrong but... maybe he/she is right.

    Thanks for commenting!

    Re: depend of

Oh please! There are MILLIONS of typos on the Web. There are typos I've made here in this very forum that appear on the Web. They appear in blogs. They appear in the comments that respond to the news articles that actually have been through an editor.

Are there other native speakers who says "Something depends of X" is correct?

I believe the examples you have cited are all typos. They don't make sense as "of" but make perfect sense as "on."

    Re: depend of

    I agree with Barb.

It "depends upon" would be another option, but I have never seen "depends of."
