    white-maned

Can you plese explain the red parts of each sentence? The following sentences are about how Dye, a retired Marine Capt, has tried to realize oliver stone's visions in the war movie about Alexander.

    1. THe white-maned has a firm handshake and is so commanding that Farrel spent three weeks in a desert tent with him to observe the captain's leadership qualities. ( Also, what does this sentence imply?)

    2. In his research, Dye gained new respect for a powerful and effective military formation invented by Alexander's father.

    3. In those days, fighting , to a major extent, was hand to hand. We needed acctors to go through the conditioning of a Macedonian soldier.

    1. THe white-maned has a firm handshake and is so commanding that Farrel spent three weeks in a desert tent with him to observe the captain's leadership qualities. ( Also, what does this sentence imply?) I think there is a missing word or words - it is presumably referring to Captain Dye. He has a firm handshake and is so successful as a leader that the director spent three weeks observing his methods.

    2. In his research, Dye gained new respect for a powerful and effective military formation invented by Alexander's father. "gained new respect" - saw there was more to something than he had previously thought. "Military formation" - armies are organised and arranged on the battlefield in many different formations, depending on the terrain, the various military groups, and the skill of judging your opponent's potential weaknesses.

    3. In those days, fighting , to a major extent, was hand to hand. We needed actors to go through the conditioning of a Macedonian soldier. in Alexander's day, soldiers chiefly fought face to face, using hand weapons. Th actors had to be trained to move and fight in the way that the ancient soldiers were trained.
