    must, would and should

    Dear teachers,

    Please read the following sentences and explain if the tag questions are correct or not.

    No.1
    I thought he must come, shouldn't he? Or needn't he?

    No.2
    I thought he would come, wouldn't he? Or didn't he?

    No.3
    I thought he should come, shouldn't he?

    The question tag for all of them should be "... , didn't I?" because the question tag goes with the main clause, not with the subordinate clause.
    (Note that "I thought he must come" in N 1 sounds a bit strange.)
