    scrap figures, fix

    1) what is the meaning of "scrap figures"?

This catchphrase appeared in the movie Casino (1995) in the final scenes in connection with busting the casino premises up and checking the figures in their books.

    2) im seeking to express situation when someone corrects figures in accountancy in order to deceive authority. What is the verb for this?
Could it be the verb "fix"?

    Thank you guys

    Re: scrap figures, fix

'Scrap' could be the money you get from selling what has been broken up, but as a verb it could also mean to get rid of something, which makes it hard to know whether they're referring to the money they get from selling the remains of the casino or they want to delete some figures. From what you have written, I suspect it's the former.

i refered to "scrap figures" as a compound noun. By no means it was a verb in that context. It was the phrase that one of investigators said while browsing the books.

    Re: scrap figures, fix

"scrap figures" could be monies that are just throwaway, or losses, shown on an accounting sheet.

But we need more context. Can you print the dialogue?

    Re: scrap figures, fix

Craps is a casino game. Google it to see how it is played.

So craps figures would be the amount earned at those tables where it is played and posted on an accounting sheet.

When altering figures in accounting in order to deceive, it is called "cooking the books"
