    Talking soledad

    Dear teacher,
I know there is a song named "soledad", so what does it mean?
    Thanks

    Re: soledad

It's Spanish for "alone"- pronounced So-lay-thad (not Sole-Dad)

    Re: soledad

    ... except that it's a noun, so it's "being alone/solitude/alone-ness" or - depending on context - "loneliness".

(Of course, it's quite possible that in the English translation that word was replaced by "Alone" as the song-title; I wouldn't know. But in titles of translated songs anything can happen. I gave a (regrettably) unpublished translation of the Jobim song Engano the title 'How wrong?', and it doesn't mean that at all - more like 'deception'. But I'm rambling again... )
