Is OR Are and that/like in a Sentence

    Hello,

Please tell me whether "is" or "are" is accurate in the following sentence or a similar sentence and also explain how to determine which one to use in a sentence.

Roxie feels that the men in her life is/are the problem.

Also, how does one determine whether the word "like" or "that" should come after the word feel(s) in a sentence.

Roxie feels that/like the men in her life...

'men' is plural, hence use 'are'

Roxie feels that/like the men in her life...

It depends of whether 'feels' is being used in the sense of 'considers/thinks' or 'feels' more in the sense of an 'emotional feeling', that is, 'something feels like..., feels as if...'

    A heart-felt emotional state:
"I feel like nobody ever seems interested in what I've got to say."

A doctor objectively reporting some information about a patient:
"She feels that the men in her life..."
