    present perfect & past simple

    Q :Have you ever been to London?
    A : Yes I went there on my holidays two years ago.
    Q : Have you had a good time? or Did you have a good time? ( Are both questions correct? if not why?)
    A: Yes, it was great.

    This is correct. We use the present perfect to refer to (or enquire about) events which happened at unspecified times in the past.

    If you had specified a particular time (for instance, have you been to london last week X) you would use the past simple.

    You are enquiring about a specified past event so the simple past is correct.

    We would use the present perfect to enquire about someone's experience when the experience is still ongoing. For instance,

    A) We've been here in New York for 2 weeks now, but we're going home tomorrow.

    B) Have you had a good time?

    If the event has finished, we use the past simple.

    A) We spent 2 weeks in New York. We arrived home yesterday.

    B) Did you have a good time?

    A: Yes, it was great.
