fling = a brief sexual or romantic relationship

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me the most suitable meaning of the word in bold in the following excerpt from an entertainment news?

Taylor involuntarily gasps when she sees Brot's scarred face for the first time and immediately regrets her reaction. Taylor looks into Brot's eyes when he shows up at her hospital room and feels that he's still the man she has always known. Brot pushes Taylor away, claiming their time together in Iraq was just a fling for him, but he clearly still loves Taylor.

I know the following meanings of the word in question:

    1. a brief peiod of indulging one’s impulses
    2. an usually brief attempt of efforts
    3. a brief sexual or romantic relationship
    4. a brief trial

    Thank you for you efforts.
