    Arrow the stretch run

In the name if the Merciful Allah,
Hi guys, shortly before the last American presidential elections I heard this phrase:They are heading into the stretch run, from the American media on talking about Obama and McCain. Would you please define both of the two words: stretch and run. Thanks in advance.

    Re: the stretch run

    Hi -
Are you quite sure it wasn't "the home stretch"?

The home stretch is the last part of a race.

    Re: the stretch run

I'm dead sure. I heard it and saw it on CBS or abc news channel.

    Re: the stretch run

Then I can only guess the person who said it meant to say something like "The run down the home stretch" and got a little off-track in their speaking.

It just means the final part of the race.
