    Mark Twain

What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know

It's what we know for sure that just ain't so

Could you write the second sentence in other words, please?

Does it mean that something is not working correctly or is not done properly, that there's something wrong and this upset us?

    Re: Mark Twain

If you are sure of something but what you are sure of is not true you can get into trouble because of that.

    Re: Mark Twain

Twain is being humorous. It means "what gets us in trouble is what we believe with certainty but which turns out wrong."
