    Which one do you think is correct? People who contribute here usually expect the poster to give it a go, especially when it's a multiple choice question.

    That aside, the preposition of is not needed here:

    twelve million of immigrants entered the US via Ellis Island

    This is possible in the appropriate context:twelve million of the immigrants entered the US via Ellis Island

    is a complete sentence and cannot be the subject of the verb entered.

    The sentence could be split up into two clauses if a relative clause is introduced:

    There were more than
    twelve million immigrants who entered the US via Ellis Island
