skin and flesh of water melon

What do we call the outermost green part of a water melon and the interior red part of a water melon? Are they skin and flesh of a water melon? Thanks!

Yes, that's right. But then, what would you call the light green part between the skin and the flesh?

The outer shell - the hard green part - is called the "rind." Most folks count the whitish part between the green and the red as the rind also. The red part is the flesh. Now you're making me crave watermelon, which is out of season in winter in Michigan!

Oh, bad luck! Christmas time and watermelon go together in Australia.
