    Make it a treble (?)

Hello! I have been trying to find out what the phrase 'Make it a treble' means. The context is this: An elderly man is offered a drink. He gets a bit upset of something and calls after the other man getting the drink to 'make it a treble!'. I wonder if he means the drink should be large of stiff or something like that. Could someone explain this to me, please. (I tried to make a thread a couple of minutes ago, logged in and all, but was tossed out... Hope this works now.) Best regards P.

Re: Make it a treble (?)

"Treble" means triple. In this case, he wanted three "shots" of liquor. (A "shot" is approximately 1 1/2 ounces.) It's not unusual to hear someone in a bar order a whiskey and then say "make it a double," meaning they want two shots in their glass. Ordering a treble would get you three shots in a single drink and would definitely dull any pain you were feeling.
