    Talking Translation problem

I have to translate this sentence in Italian
    - He was rude to you, and you got your own back in spades, I would have said. Can you blame him for being less than servile? -

I am not sure of what 'get your own back in spades' means

    Could anyone help me?

    Thank you very much.

That is grammatical, but it doesn't make sense. Perhaps:
"You were rude to him, and you got paid back in spades," I would have said.

That does not make sense in English. I can only guess what less than servile" is supposed to mean.

    Re: Translation problem

    Do you mean:

He was rude to you and got you back in spades.

    or

He was rude to you and paid you back in spades.

It means . . . He was rude to you and treated you much more badly than you ever treated him.

    Re: Translation problem

Thank you for your help but I have the opposite problem. I need to translate this sentence from English to Italian and my problem is not understanding clearly the meaning of 'you got your own back in spades'. I think it should mean that she took a revenge for his rudeness and this paid her back more than what she suffered for the original offense. Something like 'you got what you were owed plus a bonus'.
    But I am not sure...

    Response:
You have stated things more clearly. I think the problem is that you somehow got the sentence wrong. (The expression is: paid back in spades.)
