    hot and cold running ideas

    Hello, teachers.
I have trouble understanding the following sentence.

He was just ending his vacation, and he thought he recalled having a final farewell party for two or three lovely female types he had chanced to meet ....The party had been a classic of its kind, complete with hot and cold running ideas of all sorts, and lots and lots of nice powerful liquor.

The part I don't understand is "hot and cold running ideas of all sorts". What does this phrase imply? I appreciate your help very much.

Re: hot and cold running ideas

It's a metaphor, using the idea of hot and cold running water to express the range of ideas.
