    atmosphere of having tea

    Hi

We gave a concert in the Presbyterian Church Hall in Howth. It had the whole atmosphere of having tea with the vicar about it.

--- does it mean that after the concert they were drinking tea with the vicar?

    thanks

In having tea with the vicar, isn't one is on one's best behavior?

    Re: atmosphere of having tea

Compare how you would act if you were out having a beer with your friends to how you would act if you were having a genteel event like tea with the minister.

The latter is how the concert felt.

It's a British thing. If you are going to have tea with the vicar you will bring out your best china. You will have some tea cakes. You will dress nicely. And you will certainly be on your best behavior.

But does it mean that Barb_D and Soup were not quite right?

    Re: atmosphere of having tea

    Dear Guest:

I completely agree with the other respondents to this post, and I'd like to add that a concert that has the whole atmosphere of having tea with the vicar about it, will be a concert of very traditional music. There will not be any avant garde experimentation.
It seems that the example was written by one of the musicians, so perhaps the reference is in part to the type of musical offering.

    Petra
